A considerable progress has been made in dealing with main criticisms of macro econometric modelling on systems, expectations and dynamics. However, those advance were not directly transferred into macro econometric modelling in less development countries (LDCs). The objectives of this paper are threefold: the first is to discuss the desirable characteristics of economic models for LDCs, the second is to evaluate the existing econometric models for Sri Lanka using those desirable features and the third is to discuss the number of challenges in front of new generation of models for Sri Lanka in context of the new developments in the Sri Lankan economy and econometric theory.en_US
